Let’s be honest…today was a tough day in my book. Hence this late post with nothing much to say. Today I introduced the word “in” but I’ll admit that “in” got very left “out” today. Leave it to a nice lady in our gym locker room to enlighten me about why KC’s swimming adventure didn’t go so hot this afternoon. Before we headed out to the pool, I had finished telling this woman about our late night last night stuck in the worst San Francisco traffic ever (who’s idea was it anyway to do bridge repair with lane closures after an SF Giants game?). Then when we all returned to the locker room around the same time, she so delicately mentioned how tired she must be and how that could really throw a body off. Wait…what? Why had I been so blind? I was so concentrated on dealing with KC’s behavior that this hadn’t dawned on me. So thank you kind gym lady.
I attempted to play our outside word search game when we got home with all of the words learned so far (Go/go/To/to/The/the/
Look/look/At/at/In/in), but after about 3 words, she started pretending she couldn’t read any of the letters or words (Don’t let the adorable pictures with her pom poms deceive you). I decided not to push her and figured it was just a good reminder that we all need a break from things, even four year olds. So if you’ve had any rough days while trying to teach these high frequency words (sight words), don’t worry, you’re not alone.
On another note, I really enjoyed reading with KC in her bed tonight. She picked a wonderful one tonight and said, “This one is full of great sight words, mommy. Let’s read this one!” then said and spelled each and every word out perfectly. #priceless
