Maternity Fashion Advice & Giveaway from lifeasus.com! // PinkBlush Maternity #lifeasus #pinkblushmaternity #maternitystyle #maternityfashion #maternityclothes #bumpstyle
All of my maternity and nursing clothes from my first pregnancy fit into a duffle bag that has followed me across moves and storage  over the past 5 years. It doesn’t all fit comfortably this time around, but it  still felt a little like Christmas being able to scavenge through it for a few things that made their way into my closet again this time around. Plus, it’s fun to tell my daughter, KC, that I’m wearing something I also wore when I was pregnant with her. Call it luck or not, but either way I’m thrilled to be due with our baby boy around the same time of the year as my daughter was born. Now that I’m almost 30 weeks pregnant, these cooler months are calling my name as I start to feel (and look) much much bigger.

Are you newly pregnant, planning on being pregnant, or already well into your pregnancy? Here is a little bit of fashion advice I’ve learned along the way!

(And be sure to stick around to the end of this post to enter a Pink Blush Maternity $25 gift card giveaway and treat yourself to something new for your closet! Not pregnant or looking for maternity clothes? No worries, they also have a women’s line!)

1. Buy a pair of nice jeans early on in your pregnancy

Forget squeezing into your unbuttoned non-maternity jeans with an uncomfortable Bella Band around your belly. Unlike my first pregnancy, I never once wore a Bella Band this time around, making the warm summer months of my first trimester much more bearable. In my case, I found that I simply feel better about myself and my changing body with a nice well-fitted pair of jeans. Also, If you are anything like me, spending money on a pair of AG maternity skinny jeans that I won’t wear after the baby is born makes a whole lot more sense when I have more time to wear them. It took two trips to Destination Maternity (one with my 4 year old and another late night trip after bedtime without her) to choose that very special pair, but seeing as how they are 1 of only 2 pairs of maternity jeans that I own, they have been worn A LOT and still have about 2-1/2 more months to go. Unfortunately they have finally started to lose their perfect fit and feel baggy after an hour of wear, but I still feel that I got my money’s worth since I never gave them a break and I spend a lot of time bending down to tie my daughter’s shoes (this is probably a sign to either start practicing her shoe-tying skills or add a pair of velcro shoes to her Christmas gift list!). My other pair are cropped jeans from Old Navy, which I love, but I won’t be able to wear them as the rainy months quickly approach.

I’m thinking at least one more pair of jeans is necessary to feel good through the holidays and so I plan to get this pair from Pink Blush Maternity (if my size come back in stock or if they restock with a similar distressed style). Since their prices are SO reasonable and a fraction of the cost of my AG maternity jeans, I’m also choosing between both this and this pair!

2. Layer, layer, layer (if the seasons permit, of course)

Maternity Fashion Advice & Giveaway from lifeasus.com! // PinkBlush Maternity #lifeasus #pinkblushmaternity #maternitystyle #maternityfashion #maternityclothes #bumpstylePick up several simple maternity camis (I love this one from Target) and tank tops (I love both this and this from Destination Maternity) and then layer short sleeve or long sleeve cardigans over them. Whether it’s a cardigan purchased from a maternity store or not, it’s a cardigan you’ll still be able to wear for years to come. Other than trending on the more draped-front look, I have found nothing different about a cardigan purchased from a maternity store vs. non-maternity. This crochet shoulder cardigan from Pink Blush Maternity may be my most favorite (pictured above)! This beautiful lace cardigan has also added a really fun bohemian look over my dresses (pictured above). I also have a versatile white linen crochet sleeve cardigan which is out of stock (not pictured, but here it is in navy blue, black or mocha!). Pink Blush Maternity seriously has such an adorable selection of “maternity” cardigans…but who’s kidding us, they can all be worn whether you are pregnant or not, so don’t clear them out of your closet after baby is born! I also imagine that these pieces will be very popular with a wardrobe during those months of nursing, paired with simple nursing tank tops.

3. Don’t sacrifice style and fit for comfort when you can have it all!

Your body and belly may be growing, but that doesn’t mean that you should grab for your nearest yoga pants day in and day out. I’m not saying that yoga pants are out of the question…just that it may feel really good to have some fun stylish pieces in your closet to grab for on days when you plan to leave the house! I know I’ve enjoyed having that option, and Pink Blush Maternity has easily stepped in to first place for me when it comes to finding a large selection of maternity clothes that are affordable, stylish and of great quality.

Grab yourself a cute dress or two that can be dressed up or down! I have fun pairing mine with low kitten heels one day, and a pair of booties on another day. Change up the jewelry too and it has transformed into an entirely different outfit. Pink Blush Maternity’s 3/4 sleeve chiffon maternity dresses are both cute and comfortable. I absolutely love this floral dress. I have long legs and love that this one falls at a great length not too high above my knees. It’s slightly longer than my 3/4 sleeve tribal dress and is less to worry about when hiking the windy and steep streets of San Francisco, if you know what I mean. My exact tribal dress is in limited stock , but they also have this one in a different color, or this one is still similar in color and print to mine and super cute. I had to wait patiently for the weather to cool down just a little before I could truly enjoy these dresses, and now you can definitely expect them to make many appearances in our daily #dresswithus Instagram pictures. At the rain hits, I’ll have fun pairing them with leggings and boots and layering with a cardigan and jacket.

4. Accessorize!

pbm30This is what I lacked during my first pregnancy and also why I think I like some of my maternity clothes from 5 years ago way better this time around. Add a statement necklace, hoop earrings and a girly  bracelet and wah-lah…I actually feel put together and confident in my simple t-shirt and jeans when all it really took was an extra 3 minutes to pull the outfit together with accessories! I never planned to buy jewelry from a maternity shop, but think about it…a one-stop online shop to buy an entire outfit (or multiple outfits). It also eliminates the need to drive, park and quite possibly keep one eye on one (or more) small child. Ever managed to pull only one leg of a pair of skinny jeans on before your dressing room curtain was pushed aside by your little one to begin his/her own fashion show complete with your bra, shoes and the fake pregnant belly once hanging inside your dressing room?

That said, I found some great deals on cute statement necklaces from Pink Blush Maternity that are versatile, fun, and easily dress an outfit up or down. And a special bonus for the necklaces that come with matching earrings! The sets I have are no longer available, but their selection has really grown tremendously in the past few months and I see this one similar to my mint colored necklace and these similar to my peach colored necklace (similar 1, similar 2), as well as many others that I have my eye on. They even have shoes and purses now! I’m a sucker for something that I can enjoy now and for years to come after my pregnancy.

My daughter KC said to me, “Run, mommy!” as we began our ascent up a steep neighborhood street of SF. My response, after a really long family walk around Noe Valley, and as I continued at a walking pace up the hill to our car, “This IS me running!” She got a kick out of that, but I wasn’t kidding!

With these simple tips in hand definitely head on over to Pink Blush Maternity when you have a chance!

Hi Alli! Love this post! You look so great. I agree about cardigans! I’ve been layering cardigans over my maternity shirts everyday! I just ordered a few new cardigans from PinkBlush last week! I would love to win the $25 though because they have lots of cute things I want!

Kerry, I really appreciate your sweet words. Now that I’m in the third trimester and my belly seems to be growing so much, I’m always searching my closet for something I can leave open over a maternity tee, like a cardigan or vest. So happy to hear that you bought some cardigans from PinkBlush Maternity. Definitely a purchase that you won’t regret since you’ll be able to keep wearing them post pregnancy! Good luck!

    Hi Alli,
I loved reading your blog and of course you and KC look adorable in all the pictures! If I win the gift card, I would give it to my sister. She is 7 weeks pregnant with her second baby. She doesn’t have any maternity clothes from her first pregnancy because my niece was born @ 24 weeks, so my sister was still wearing her regular clothes! I’m really excited to tell her about pink blush. We were just trying to think of places the other day where she could get cute maternity clothes online…we live in wyoming…not a lot of shopping options! :)

Stephanie, Thanks for the kind words. Congrats to your sister on her pregnancy. How very exciting and so sweet of you to want to share with her. By the way, there is a 20% off store wide sale tonight for Veterans Day at PinkBlushMaternity.com. Good luck!
