Halloween Wreath Craft Project Rediscovered in the Pumpkin Patch!

Our annual visit to a pumpkin patch took place this last weekend. And, of course, choosing the perfect pumpkin was only the finale after the kids were overjoyed to climb haystacks, slide down slides, ride the tree swings, and feed the goats in the petting zoo!  By the end they were all seeing who could pick up the biggest pumpkin, but ultimately made Dad carry the prize out!  The trip is one of those mile marker moments where we always have photos from previous years to pull up.  The backdrop of orange and straw might never change, but it just fills our hearts to see the same smiles glowing from our changing and growing children.

While going through some of the pics from years past I came across one of my favorite DIY Halloween or Autumn craft projects.  I realized, though, that I NEVER posted about it!  Wow.  This is SO, so easy and yet can end up simply stunning!  Also, a fun one to do with the kids. So, stop eating those candy corns and get the glue gun out!

What you’ll need: Styrofoam wreath (any color, any size), Candy corn, Hot glue gun, Black duct or electric tape, Krylon Preserve It, Ribbon (your choice of design)

Directions: Wrap black duct or electric tape around foam wreath. Glue candy corn individually to wreath in rows of alternating directions. At the end of each row you may have to get creative with the final size or angle of your candy corn to ensure it fits. Step outside and spray your wreath with Krylon Preserve It aerosol spray to give it a glossy finish and keep your candy lasting much longer.  I saved mine for 2 years, stored in ziplock bags and inside tupperware bins, and they still looked amazing! Cut a piece of ribbon to your desired length and knot it around the top of your completed wreath (see picture). My choice of ribbon was black with white polka dots and I’m seriously debating recreating this wreath again this year. Have fun, a lot of patience, and definitely enlist any tweens or teenagers in the house to help with the gluing.  It really was a fun project to do with our 12 year old at the time. Littler ones will have fun counting, sorting (and likely eating) the candy corn.

* Fun Tips: To make a mini version for your mantle or entryway, simply buy a smaller foam wreath. Oh, did you buy too much candy corn by mistake? Throw your leftover candy corn in a clear vase or two and set an orange or black candle inside. Wrap extra ribbon around the candle and enjoy your festive and colorful decor.
