Our family took a last minute vacation to Disneyland over Father’s Day weekend. With our lifestyle as business owners and Funeral Directors, we are professionals at spontaneity (As the planner-type person in the relationship, I may have been resistant at first but have come to understand and appreciate this fun trait in @lifeaseric). Now that I’ve set up my excuse…I must admit that KC’s Father’s Day gift was a few days late! Better late than never, right?
First, I must begin by giving credit to the blogger who posted this project, as well as to the blogger that she gave credit. Here is Andrea’s awesome version (from pinksugarland.com) of Brandy’s awesome project (from heartandhabit.com)! We chose to do a 10×10 canvas version like Andrea’s and headed over to Jo-Ann Fabric with our mobile coupons for acrylic paints, alphabet stickers, and a 10×10 canvas. We already had painter’s tape on hand as well as paper plates and foam brushes for the paints. The following paint colors that KC chose made her think of the ocean, sailing, and daddy’s favorite color, blue – Americana brand in Ocean Blue, Sea Breeze, Spa Blue, and Lemonade.
Andrea mentioned in her comments that she painted a layer of white over the tape, so that if any paint bled under the edges, it would be the same color of the canvas. Since we were short on time, I chose not to paint the canvas white and risk it. I ended up loving the look when the paint bled a little under our letters. We used regular abc stickers (I couldn’t find any vinyl letters on our shopping trip). Once the paint dried, as I assumed would happen, the stickers were a little difficult to peel off. I had to scrape off paper the sticker left behind with my nails, but it still worked and the end result looked great! The painter’s tape came right off and I love the look it gave with a clean white border. KC really studied Andrea’s version and pretty much nailed it! Now here’s our version of Brandy’s awesome project with complete inspiration from Andrea’s awesome version of it!
Thanks Andrea and Brandy for the amazing Father’s Day gift idea! This little artist is as proud as can be of her present and daddy absolutely loved it. Now to decide if it will grace the walls of his office or if we’ll get to enjoy it too on a wall somewhere at home. Have fun creating your own version of this craft for any holiday or simply add a favorite quote for one amazing piece of DIY wall art!
Tip: Don’t forget to add your child’s age and date on the back, and even mention the holiday! You’ll thank me years down the road.
